Requirements engineering in the browser

Specify, link, review and prove your requirements.

The Engineering Toolbox Requirements Manager brings the way of working of large RE systems such as DOORS Next to your team: modules, traceability, baselines, reviews and ReqIF. No installation, no training marathon, and free of charge in the basic version.

The whole process in one tool

From the customer's requirements specification to an approved, verifiable baseline.

1Set up

Artifact types, attributes and link types per project, starting from a profile according to ISO/IEC/IEEE 29148. Add ASIL, variants or your own terms without programming.

Project properties

2Specify

Modules like documents with chapters and automatic numbering. Edit directly in the text, EARS sentence templates, hints on vague wording while you type.

Modules and document view

3Link

Typed links from the customer requirement to the test case. When a requirement changes, dependent links become suspect. Matrix, coverage and impact analysis reveal every gap.

Traceability

4Review and approve

Reviews with a decision per artifact and reviewer, approvals with name and role, change requests with a list of affected items. Customers and suppliers take part without being able to change anything.

Reviews and approvals

5Manage

Immutable baselines, comparison of two versions down to every attribute, complete history per artifact and metrics on coverage, status and volatility.

Baselines and comparison

6Exchange

ReqIF from DOORS, Polarion, Jama or Codebeamer with reconciliation of repeated deliveries. Excel and CSV with dry run, Word, JSON backup and, with the ETRM API add-on, a REST API.

Data exchange

Traceable from the customer requirement to the test

The traceability matrix shows at a glance which system requirement derives from which customer requirement and where something is missing. You set links by clicking into the cell.

  • Suspect links after changes, cleared with a log entry
  • Coverage per link type with a list of open artifacts
  • Impact analysis across up to four levels

Every change documented

Baselines freeze binding versions. The comparison shows new, removed, changed and moved requirements with old and new values, exportable as evidence for your customer.

  • Approval of baselines with name, role and time
  • Changes in the document highlighted against a baseline
  • History per artifact with restore

Reconcile ReqIF deliveries instead of overwriting them

When the customer sends a new revision of the requirements specification, ETRM compares three versions: the last delivery, the new delivery and your current state. You see what the customer changed, what your team changed and where the two collide.

  • Mapping of types and attributes is saved per source
  • Adoption per artifact, with suspect links for follow-up
  • Export as ReqIF, Excel, CSV and Word

Know where the project stands

Metrics on coverage, status, suspect links, open reviews and change requests. The wording check shows vague terms and open points before they slip into an approval.

Metrics of a project

Who ETRM is made for

For teams that specify requirements across several levels and have to prove them to customers or against standards:

  • Suppliers and manufacturers in automotive (ISO 26262, ASPICE)
  • Medical technology, railway engineering, aerospace
  • Machine and plant engineering, engineering consultancies
  • Smaller projects that need a clean requirements specification

What is deliberately not included

ETRM leaves out functions whose effort rarely pays off in small and medium-sized teams:

  • no streams, change sets or branches; baselines and change requests cover the need
  • no diagram or storyboard editors; you attach images to requirements
  • no OSLC connection; a documented REST API instead
